I left the previous comic up late so I could post this one today.

In Canada, Remembrance day is on November 11th. We mark a minute of silence on the 11th hour and the 11th minute to show our respect for the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country. Also, to show our respect for the ones who have sacrificed to keep us safe.

This story here actually happened to me and nearly brought tears to my eyes. I was about 16 years old and was talking to him about joining the reserves. (No, I didn’t make it in, but I tried.) That prompted this conversation.

I still remember to this day how one war vet I spoke with wasn’t upset that Germans were coming over the hill to kill him, but rather that he was down to his last cigarette and he didn’t have enough time to enjoy it. I guess that’s how war hardens someone I guess.

My hope is that we never have to ever go through anything like a world war in our lifetimes.
