There are only two places that have Chinooks. Calgary and the Swiss Alps. “Chinook” means “Snow Eater” in Cree. It is absolutely normal to see temperature swings as much as 20 degrees Celsius over the span of 8 hours.
While Chinooks are awesome in their own right, what it does is cause all of the snow to melt into water, which then promptly turns into ice. It makes driving very hazardous and walking tricky. It’s mandatory (At least in my eyes) to have studded winter tires to bite into the ice when it forms.
We’re currently nearing the end of the wintertime here and just edging into spring, so the weather is starting to get a little wild and windy.
